Robert M Baker (1quikv6) | Monday, January 21, 2002 - 01:53 pm I finally have my 4 front GTA wheels ordered. I've read the topics on this discussion board as well as turbobuick.com but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. What I want to install are 255/50/16 tires. I've noticed alot of people like to use 245/50/16 on theirs. Will having the taller tires make fitment a problem? And which would be the closest size to original in a 16" wheel? The 245s or 255s in a 50 series tire? And can 45 series tires work without rubbing? I know it's a lot of questions but I don't want to have fitment problems when I buy the tires. The tire brands I'm considering are the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW or Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus or Yokohama AVS dB. Any input or suggestions from you guys is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
Rob Reese (Tta1387) | Monday, January 21, 2002 - 02:14 pm 245/50/16 is same height as stock. On my parent's Monte Carlo SS, they went 245s up front and 255s in the rear. Never had a problem. Those are good tires. If you want 245s all the way around, SLP has GSC take off for about $100/tire. They are brand new and were taken off for when they put 17" wheels/tires on the SS and Firehawks. |
    M. Clay Marlow (Marlow) | Monday, January 21, 2002 - 02:24 pm I have the 245's all around mine and they rub a little at full turn. I'm going to stick with those when I get new ones. |
    M. Clay Marlow (Marlow) | Monday, January 21, 2002 - 05:00 pm www.slponline.com Going to order myself a set tomorrow. BTW, these same tires are $155 each on tirerack.com |
Turbopower (Turbopower) | Monday, April 08, 2002 - 05:43 pm What is the biggest wheel you can fit on the 16x8 GNX wheels for the rear. I want to put 255's or 275's but I don't know what size would be best, without any rubbing or using spacers. Thanks Mike |
Michael Ellis (Stickybones) | Monday, April 08, 2002 - 07:15 pm I don't think 275s are gonna fit. If your rear is centered, 255s should fit...but will be close. I run 245s in the rear and I have only about 1/2 inch space between the tire and the frame. BTW, I assume you're running front GTA rims in the rear. |
Turbopower (Turbopower) | Monday, April 22, 2002 - 05:54 pm Where can you buy the GTA black 16x8 wheels? Also how close do they look to the real GNX wheels. |
Robert M Baker (1quikv6) | Monday, April 22, 2002 - 07:21 pm You can get them from Classic Industries. Not sure how many they have left. Visit www.classicindustries.com and order a catalog (or download one) for the Firebird/TA. You can save money and order a set of wheels or do it right and order four fronts. As far as them looking light actual GNX wheels, they are as close as you are going to get. |
Tom Bailey (Tkbailey) | Tuesday, December 17, 2002 - 01:03 pm Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I got the GTA wheels from classic. Am running 245-50-16s all the way around. I have stock springs that are in pretty good shape, but when I hit a bump, I get a pretty vicious rub on the top inside of the fender lip. I also get some rub when I turn the wheel all the way. Any ideas how to rid myself of these problems? Different tire size up front maybe? |
Robert M Baker (1quikv6) | Tuesday, December 17, 2002 - 05:44 pm I have the same wheels and size tires as you and I also rub at lock to lock. You might want to change your front tires to a smaller size if the rubbing bothers you to much. I don't mind it because eventually the rubbing stops. |
Michael Ellis (Stickybones) | Wednesday, December 18, 2002 - 04:35 am I run 225/55s up front on the GTA wheels. I also built up my turn stops on the side of the lower A arm to prevent the wheel from turning too far. That way, I never have to worry about cutting the wheel too far and rubbing the rims/tires. However, it does making turning in tight spots a bit more difficult. Oh well, you can't have everything. |
Walter Chleva (Coolguywalt) | Monday, December 15, 2003 - 08:09 pm Quick question!!! If I WERE to order the GTA/GNX rims from Classic Industries, which ones would I need? The ones with 0 offsets (all four) or the 2 with 0 offsets and 2 w/ 16mm offsets? |
Jimmy Pier (Angelina) | Tuesday, December 16, 2003 - 06:15 am I believe you have to order 4 front rims Walter.. |
