I have always wanted a GN and have to make a decision fast. I don't know much about them.
Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions that I'm sure will bore most of you. I am really into the '60 Corvettes, so if I can ever repay you with info on these cars, please ask anytime.
Anyway, I am looking at a '87 GN. It has about 200K on it. Has a larger turbo, GNX Fender Flairs, louvers, non stock wheels, front frame brace, rear seat brace, connecting front brace.
How do you tell if the body/frame has ever been twisted. A friend remembers looking at a car about a year ago and it had a kink in the quarter
near the small side window on the passenger side. He remembers the same kind of wheels this one has on it. This car has somewhat fresh paint in that area. Is there any part of the frame to look at to tell if this is a problem? Also, how do I know if it is really a GN. Any special serial #s for GNs? How do I tell if the motor is original? Any code on the block? Where? Are there any places the frames rot? Is there a matching serial number on the block thet matches the VIN, like the early Corvettes? Any info will be greatly appreciated. The car is super clean inside and out. What do you think is a fair price?
If you can think of anything else I should look at
please let me know. Also, what do a set of stock '87 wheels go for? Thanks!!

First off read this entire site. Pay particular attention to the Buyers Guide.

http://www.gnttype.org/general/buyguide.html

Twists: Check body lines especially around doors. Also look down the side for ripples. The kind of twists that these cars gets isn't usually seen in the frame. Possible take it to a body shop and have them check it out. After 200k it will need body bushings, if they havn't been replaced.

Real GN?: Under trunk lid look for the RPO sticker. Code WE2 should be present.

Matching Engine: After 200K, who cares? As long as it runs good. If you are like the rest of us anything that hasn't been changed will be eventually. This car has already been modified significantly.

Frame Rot: Behind the rear wheel, especially drivers side. The rear bumper should be solid, not spongy.

Price: With 200K clean, mods, ummmmmm.. that's tough but, my .02......$6000 to $9000 depending on condition of everything.

Wheels: Going on ebay from $350 to $600+, depending on condition.

Good luck, Hope to see you on the DARK SIDE soon.
