Has anyone out there heard of a motor swap involving the GN Turbo into a British Sports Car (Triumph TR7). I have found a site that carries an installation kit for this but I want to know if the car itself can handle this motor. The motor will fit no problem I am more concerned with the performance of the motor and weather the chassis can handle it. I want to do this but also want to make sure I have something I can drive when It's done.

Dave

PS. as a general comment this site is one of the best I have ever found as far as user friendly and information content.

I've got a TR7 and a GN. I read about this
conversion, more commonly a NA V6 conversion.
As for if the Triumph TR7 (I call mine a "death wedge") able to handle it? If a car with a frame such as a Regal has trouble handling the torque, the unibody and likely rusty TR7 frame would be seriously comprimised. Oh sure it can be done, but
you'll likely trash the car, if not wreck it. Remember, you'll need to replace things like rear end, transmission, you'll need the TR8 X member, or have yours modified, wiring harness, gauge and dash conversion, suspension, wheels and tires. As cool n' scarry as this conversion would be, anything could be done.
Oh yes, have a spare turbo engine around too.
Please let me know if you do it!!

Jim,

Thanks for the aaah good info. I think... One good thing I'm in California so the frame and car is as far as I can tell rust free. Yea I know a lot of work is going to be required for this but it (could) turn out to be very nice. I have found ads in this site for complete drive trains, for around $2500 plus S&H. I do know that the V6 motor is about 90+ lbs. more than the current motor so I'm hoping some stiffer springs may all that’s needed for the front, the rear I will have to work on.

Dave
