I was working on my 84 GN and when i started it up i happened to glance over and see a spark coming out of the coil pack where the #5 spark plug connects the cover had a fracture. anyway i opened it up to go get a replacement coil pack and it was all gooey and melted the ignition module was fried. I called GM to see how much the replacement was and turns out its approximatelt $863. I just got out of high school and i bought the whole car for $2000 I really don't want to spend 800 on a part. I hope theres alternatives? the local junk yards don't even have regular regals. What Can I Do that will be cheaper??? help please and also what would cause that i don't want it to happen again once i get this piece. I would appreciate the help thanks
Convert to the 86/87 style module and coil pack. Casper's Electronics makes a kit or you can follow the instructions on the web site:

thanks a lot, though do you know what causes this? i don't want to buy a new one and have it happen again. I was over at advance auto parts and ask what they carry in ignition modules and their computers brought up three modules for the 86-87 turbo regals (their computers didn't have GN's specificaly) One of them is $99 another is $179 and comes with gaskets. And another comes with the coil and is $340 the guy said the $99 one is supose to be the factory equipment is this right? if so why is caspers electronics selling it for $229? are they just cheaper? i'de appreciate if someone could shed some light on the subject. thanks
