LAST NIGHT MY HEADLIGHTS WORKED FINE, AND THEN THIS MORNING - NOTHING. NO HIGH BEAMS NO HEADLIGHTS, NOTHING??? MY RUNNING LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS WORK FINE. I ALREADY PULLED EVERY FUSE FROM MY FUSE PANEL AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD. I CHECKED THE BULBS AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD. I EVEN PULLED THE SWITCH APART TO SEE IF SOMETHING MAY HAVE BROKEN BUT EVERY THING SEEMS TO BE OK THERE TOO. AUTOZONE SHOWS A HEADLIGHT RELAY FOR AN 84 TTYPE BUT I CAN'T FIND ONE ON THE CAR ANY WHERE. I TRIED TO TRACE THE WIRES BACK FROM THE HEADLIGHTS BUT I GET AS FAR AS THE FIREWALL AND THEN ITS JUST A WIRING NIGHTMARE. ANY IDEAS? ANYONE? PLEASE!
There are two fuseable links at starter motor. The small gauge wire spliced into the red 12 gauge. One is for the headlights the other for everything else. The headlights are feed from the positive battery cable to fuseable link thru cowl connector to headlight light switch. There is NO regular fuse. Internal in headlight switch is a curcit breaker. Switch failure is common on 86-87 Regals. If the fuseable link is blown it will be quite ovvious. Burned up!!! Look for short first before replacing. Dimmer switch failure is moderate. Located at base of steering coluum. On rare occations I have seen a over charging generator blow all four headlamps.
I have to play w/ the switch some times to get mine to come on. Mabey that will help>
