Dave Andrews (Davea) | Wednesday, August 28, 2002 - 04:30 pm I finally got my boost gauge and single A-Paller holder. Looking for input on the preferred method of mounting & routing of tubing and light wires. Did you mount your by blasting holes in your A-Pillar (kinda bothers me to do this) or double sided tape ? How about routing the tubing /wires ? Blast a hole or fish them along the side of dash and slip them under the holder. I dont mind hacking up the holder since it was only $20, but messing with the A bothers me if I dont have to. All input appreciated... Dave |
Scott Przybysz (Priz) | Wednesday, August 28, 2002 - 08:52 pm My way may not be considered a very good way to do it(you'll read why) but I haven't damaged anything in my car to mount it. I ran the wires up under the trim along the dash and behind the a-pillar. I then just pushed the pod(with the gauge in it of course ;) ) onto the a-pillar and slid it down so it is a little wedged in between the a-pillar itself and the dash. Then I made sure to pull the wires somewhat tight down under the dash. I don't think it looks bad, just isn't as flush as it could be. I do have to check it from time to time to make sure it's not loose, kinda makes you jump when you take off at the track and the boost gauge swings out and hangs by the dash. But since the wires are so well routed, they hold it like a bungee cord. And I now make sure it's shoved in tightly(don't have to do it that often once it gets used to sitting there) when I'm at the track. But really, it's not as bad as it may sound, it's only come out two or three times. No screws, no holes, no glue, no nothing. Good luck. |
Erik Skarsgard (Fuzzygn) | Thursday, August 29, 2002 - 05:38 am The method that seems to work the best is to clean the A pillar trim really well and then use a dab of RTV (I like the blue). It holds great and if it needs to be pulled apart, the RTV can just be pulled off on one big blob. I use tape to hold it in place until it cures. The wires are just bundled nicely together and run out the bottom of the holder and under the corner of the dash top trim. You can use a small diameter wire loom to cover them if you like. |
