My idle sucks. The IACV has been set properly (according to the previous owner), but I think it may need cleaning. I can't seem to find anything about this. Is it possible to clean it, or do you just replace it? If it can be cleaned what is the proper solvent and proceedure? My Turbo-Link is on the way, when I get it I will check the TPS as well. The car has about 65,000 miles on it. I just bought it this past weekend. It has some kind of dial thing next to the drivers seat which is supposed to change the chip programming on the fly, that is set on 5, but changing the settings doesn't seem to affect idle.

Yes it is possible to clean the IAC valve ... basically do the following:

  1. Remove the uppipe (to get it out of the way
  2. Unplug the wiring harness from the IAC
  3. Use a big wrench to unscrew the IAC from the throttle body
  4. CAREFULLY clean the tip of the pintle with carb cleaner or similar solvent. DO NOT push on the pintle or you might strip the little plastic gears inside the motor casing (ask me how I know! :))
  5. Spray carb clean into the throttle body where the pintle seats
  6. Open the throttle by hand and spray liberally around the bottom of throttle body and wipe with a rag. The ports for the IAC are in the bottom of the throttle body and the aim is to flush the cleaner thru the ports to get all the carbon and gunk out
  7. Reassemble the opposite of disassembly
  8. Perform the IAC Reset with a Scan Tool procedure (http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/faq/IACresetscan.html ... you might also have to do the TPS reset ... http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/maintenance/TPS.html)

That should do it!
