| | Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 03:14 pm I have an 87 GN The check engine light is always on. Code reads 52 "bad calpack" I have replaced the ecm and the prom chip. The code will not go away. Is there any other things that would trip this.(no other codes read) car seams to run fine. I was thinking that maybe the plugs from the wiring harness to the ecm may be corroded. I have t- tops and had a small leak. Water was running down the a pillar trim and down into my computer. I went through two computers before I realized I had the leak(it was a small leak and the floors etc always stayed dry). Could it be the ecm plugs If so how can I clean them out? Thanks

| | Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 06:39 am code 52 calpack error faulty or incorrect calpack check that all pins are fully inserted in the socket. If ok replace calpack, clear memory, and recheck. If code reappears replace ecm. use emerycloth to clean the areas you mentioned. You mentioned changing the prom chip what about the calpack?

| | Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 08:43 am If I understand right, the calpack is the other chip in the computer,Right? IF so it was included with the computer. The ecm(and calpack) and prom have maybe ten miles on them. I warrantied my last computer right away thinking Maybe I recieved a faulty one,and got this one. The code just stays. It seems to me it can't be the ecm. I was told that these computers where used in different vehicles. Is it possible that orielly's is giving me one that will work, but was actually design(or programed) for another car? Thanks a lot.

| | Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 07:20 am Also are you disconnecting the orange wire behind the battery.
|
| | Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 02:51 pm Yes I have unhooked the orange and waited about ten seconds to clear the computer. the car starts up and about 5 seconds later the light comes on and the code comes back up. so I know I am clearing the ecm. I also kill the power to it when changing the computer and chip. I also do not touch the chip by hand.I am thinking they are giving me the wrong ecm. I've only dealt with one guy at any parts store around here that even has a clue what a GN is.I always get the "what motor does that have?" question. Thanks a lot for the input.

| | Tuesday, February 18, 2003 - 06:03 pm If it comes to a defective aftermarket computer see if you can get your original GM one back. GM dealers won't take cores that have been remanufactured by the aftermarket. Like the reman mass sensors the aftermarket reman computers leave a lot to be desired.
