The egr solenoid appears manufactured in two pieces. I wonder if it will come apart without any damage and if anyother GM model share the bottom part with our cars.

Any particular reason? I think the "correct" EGRs are still pretty cheap and available.

Knowing GM, it's probably common to half a dozen models ...

GMpartsdirect has them for $27

Twice working on car i broke the small vacuum nipple. I keep a spare on hand. Just wandering if i could find a quick fix. Some years ago i bought one locally and paid $60.00.

Hi Ken, The EGR valve is $27. Part number for the solenoid is 25527186. Partsdirect probally wants $33.99 and an arm and a leg to ship. This solenoid was used on the LC2 turbo motors and 86-88 RPO LN7 3.0 in Skylark/Somerset, 86 LG2 3.8 in Century and LG3 3.8 in 86 Park Ave/LeSabre/Riviera.

The turbo motor uses 25527186. The 25527187 is for a carb 231 "A" code motor. GM won't publish what the difference is.

Phil's right. This info is almost impossible to get, but here it is. It looks to me like the leakdown rate for the -7187 is tighter than the -7186. I have no idea why! Does anyone else understand this stuff well enough to offer an explanation? I'm guessing it has something to do with the camshaft specs, i.e. overlap and lobe spaceing.
