Robert Smith (Rsmith) | Friday, April 11, 2003 - 07:22 am The MAF on my GN looks strange. It is in the stock location, mounted on the stock bracket, uses the stock hose and air cleaner, but necks down in the center to about 2 inches or so. There is no screen on the engine side, don't know about the filter side. There is not any markings on the top, but I havn't taken it loose to see the bottom. The car runs fine. Does anybody know anything about this MAF? |
Robert Smith (Rsmith) | Monday, April 14, 2003 - 12:09 pm Nope. It is "hour-glass" shaped. Skinny in the middle. I guess I'll have to take it off to see if If it is marked on the bottom. It was on the car when I bought it, so it could be just about anything. Despite the performance loss from having a 2 inch hole, it may just be an affordable alternative to the "trouble prone" reman. units. |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Wednesday, April 16, 2003 - 04:13 pm Check the search that type susposely didn't work to well. If idle, cruise 02,and wot #'s are ok leave it on |
Eric Fisher (Ericf) | Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 09:03 am I've only seen the hour glass types on non turbo 3.8s. The connectors are the same but at one time I had one setting in the garage so just for the heck of it I put it on the GN and it wouldn't run. Apparently the calibration on the OEM units are different. Sounds like an aftermarket reman unit is what you have. Look for some type of tag as I noticed regardless of what brand the numbers are usually the same. If its the one I am thinking of it might have a 7936 for a number. |
Robert Smith (Rsmith) | Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 12:07 pm Havn't had a chance to actually take the Maf off of the car to check the #'s on it. I was about to check the "idle, cruise 02,and wot #'s", as Frank suggested, with my just finished scan tool last night. Had the numbers poppin' up on the screen with the key on (I was pretty excited), started the car, computer restarted (due to the fact that the battery crapped out earlier that day), came back up with "Operating System not found" on the screen. HD blowed up. So the Dell guy is coming tues. to replace the HD and the motherboard (for the battery problem). I let you know the results next week. And hopefully I will "get the gumption" to get find the #'s on the MAF by then too. ;) |
