Have a '87 Regal Limited Turbo, with the following symptoms:

1. Car starts fine, but initial idle is kind of rough/skippy. When I shift from park to reverse to back out of the garage, engine almost dies, sometimes it does die/stall.
2. When driving shortly after start-up (engine not fully warmed up) I get hesitation upon acceleration. The whole engine kind of stutters, and then it catches and accelerates like normal.
3. Seems like when I drive the car at constant speed on a very flat, smooth road, it feels like the car is cutting out VERY slightly . . . almost imperceptible.
4. Once car is warmed up, I don't seem to have the hesitation problem, or not nearly as often or as bad.
5. I have run an older version of Turbolink, but nothing shows up as an error code.
6. IAC and TPS tuned to show up within proper range on Turbolink . . . not sure that this would be a cause, but this seems like a "baseline" kind of check from what I've read on this site.
7. Had a mechanic diagnose the hesitation problem, and they tried replacing the spark plugs (commented that the Bosch platinums that the car came with when I bought it were problem-prone). The mechanic also commented that the plug from cylinder #6 showed signs of incomplete combustion (as evidenced by the color of deposits on the plug).

Does this hesitation sound like a familiar problem to anyone? I'm wondering if this is a coil problem (mechanic suggested this as a next step if the spark plug replacement didn't solve the problem . . . and they haven't). Mechanic tested the coil and said it "checked out", but I'm not sure how hard they looked at this. Does this sound like a coil problem to anyone?

I relize this diagnosis over the internet is probably a bit of a stretch, but I'm just wondering if this mechanic is headed in the right direction here. I don't want go through a bunch of expensive parts based on a mis-diagnosed problem.

Thanks for your input!

Sounds like it could be a dirty IAC. Take it apart and clean it with carb cleaner. Your idle may be a little low too???? Always check your grounds on the back side of the pass head when anything goes wrong. They can be greasy or corroded. Either is not good.
