Charles Prochaska (Procharlie) | Friday, November 07, 2003 - 09:17 pm I bought an '87 T-Type that had a blown engine. I got it quite a long time ago and removed the engine. I am rebuilding it now, and because I did not note all the wiring locations when I removed the old blown engine - I did label most of them - I have a couple simple questions: 1. The large battery (+) cable goes to the starter, with another smaller (+) cable going to the alternator. Is there any other wire that should connect to the alternator at the same terminal as this battery cable? It looks like the plastic cap that goes over that terminal has a spot for a second wire, but I can't find any other wire to connect there. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't forgetting something. 2. Where does the battery ground cable connect? I bolted it to the right head, in the extra hole at the front next to the turbo mounting bracket, and assume that would be OK, but would like to know where it should be connected. 3. There are 4 ground wires coming from the wire harness at the back of the engine and I know some were bolted to the back of the block. I read somewhere that two should be bolted to the transmission housing. So what I did was I bolted the two shorter wires to the right head, in one of the holes at the rear of the head, and bolted the other two wires, the longer ones, under the transmission dip stick bracket that is held by the upper right transmission/engine bolt. But this doesn't seem right to me, so I would appreciate anyone who knows where these ground wires are supposed to go to let me know. 4. There is a plastic canister, about 6 inches long (not the larger charcoal canister) that is setting loose on the left fender well and has some vacuum hoses connected to it - one goes to the charcoal canister. I don't remember where it was originally, but I assume it is supposed to be bolted down. Can anyone tell me where? I know these are pretty basic questions, but I haven't found any good diagrams on any websites that show these things. Thanks in advance for your help. |
