Scott Keller (Keller) | Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 07:46 pm Helping a friend tune his 87 TR. He obtained a used VDO EGT guage that has been installed in the car, and it appears to be connected properly. It gives sensible readings driving around on the street. However, we've had the car out on the track a few times lately, and I'm suspicious of its accuracy. This is an 11.0 car (so far) turning 120 out the back door and running 24-25 PSI boost. But the EGT is only showing about 1200-1300F max. I'm more accustomed to the 'instrument' style EGTs with memory and would expect closer to 1600F or so in this state of tune. Are these 'guage' type EGTs just slow responding or known to be inaccurate? We may install one of the electronic style ones to verify. At this level I don't want to have to second guess the data. Incidentally, the probe is mounted near the inlet to the turbine either immediately above or below the O2 sensor. (forget which...) |
Dwight Hayden (Elevensecgn) | Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 08:55 pm Is there any splices in the wiring from the probe to the EGT. Substitution of different wire than what comes with the probe can throw off the guage considerable. Especially if it is a long run splice. If that is the "true EGT" on the Blue car, I can't wait to see what it will do at around 1580 or so :^) Dwight Hayden |
