| | Sunday, October 21, 2001 - 07:10 am The ignition in my '85 GN is intermittently cutting out. The car will coast for a few seconds and the Check Engine Light will be lit, then the engine will resume running. Sometimes the engine will stall completely and won't restart for a few minutes, almost like something is cooling off. The problem is very infrequent and difficult to troubleshoot. No diagnostic codes are set although I did get a Code 42 a few weeks ago. I checked all of the wiring and connections related to the ignition and sensors. The service connection for the tachometer (green plug under the ignition module) had wire exposed and may have been shorting out, but taping this up has not kept this from happening again. Any ideas what is causing this? Would a scan tool be able to diagnose this? Any help is appreciated.

| | Wednesday, October 24, 2001 - 07:12 pm OK - I bought a new '86-'87 ignition module and coil along with an adapter cable to '85. There are only three mounting studs for the module instead of four. If I drill my bracket out, the holes will pass through the rods that are welded to the bracket. Did I get the correct parts? The part numbers are: Coil 12353801 Module 24503624 Anyone have tips on mounting this?

| | Wednesday, October 24, 2001 - 08:07 pm We carry a plate that allows direct mounting. It has four studs which mount on your factory bracket, and three mounting wells that provide mounts for the three bolts on the later model coil module. Call Caspers at 847 247-0484 and request a "CCCI PLATE". -John Spina http://www.casperselectronics.com

| | Monday, November 05, 2001 - 08:19 am I installed a new ignition module and coil, but am still having this problem which is very intermittent. The car will either stall while idling, or it will completely cut out while driving. The check engine light remains on with the ignition switch on, so the ECM is getting power. It will restart within a minute or two. Could this be a problem with the crankshaft sensor? It stops very abruptly (no stumbling) so it doesn't seem like a fuel problem. Could the injectors be losing the signals to open and cause an abrupt stall?
