Hi all,
I have had a problem for quite some time with low boost in first gear, or whichever the first gear it's in when I nail it. In other words, if it's in second, I don't get good boost until third, etc. I have the TH downpipe and stock turbo, with the single 3" ATR exhaust, 307, adj actuator, adj. fp reg, Jay Carter boost sense chip. I have had to really crank the actuator to get good boost, with like 1/4" space between the end of the rod and the flapper pin. The other day I nailed it in first, and it did it's usual thing, 16 in first , 18 in second and around 20 in third, when it suddenly spiked up to 24lbs, didn't creep, just jumped up there instantly, while in the middle of third. I wondering if perhaps I'm not getting any assist from the actuator, and only getting the spring pressure, but that the spike was caused by it suddenly working, which would make sense in that with the rod that tight, 24lbs might be where it should be if it's that tight. Of course I know that's way too much boost, I let off immediately, and I had 108 leaded in it at the time. I have replaced the hose set twice and the solenoid twice, get no malf codes, and it is a GM replacement actuator. When I have it really cranked tight, I can get around 18-19 in first gear, it runs great, but then it is too much boost in the later gears. The boost doesn't creep at the shifts, it just goes directly to 2 lbs more each gear. Got any ideas? I am thinking I should just bite the bullet and spring for a new actuator, solenoid, hose set from dal and change it all at once, but I just have the feeling that won't fix it. Is there a way verify that the computer/solenoid/acutator is actually doing it's job other than just the presence of the solenoid coil on the end of the harness?
I've got Turbolnk.
Thanks,
Bob Dawson

I have subsequently disconnected the vacuum line fromt the solenoid, and went out and checked it out.
After cranking down the actuator a couple of turns, I am able to get 24 lbs at less than full throttle in first, or any gear. So I'm guessing that either the solenoid is stuck shut [which means 2 of them have been stuck shut], or it's not getting the proper signal to open up.
