I picked up a used DS while at the Nats and would appreciate any tips or pointers from anyone who has been using it with the Maxeffort. Anyone find any glitches or anything unusual or have any advise for a DS newbie.
Of course the first thing I have to do is get a different laptop, or get the adapter as I have a Compac that dont want to play well with DS.

I also had that problem, my Compaq LTE Elite 4/75 needed the adapter (tweenie), but my Compaq LTE 5400 doesn't require the tweenie! I learned a lot about how laptops are manufactured when trying to get DS to work with the old LTE Elite!!

Yes mine is the LTE Elite 4/75. I called Janice Conelly yesterday and she said they hadnt stocked the adapter for awhile since the "new" hardware module has it built in. She's going to contact Mr. Chu to see if he still has any left or can build one for me. (My Fingers crossed on that) as I understand he has been very busy with his "real job" lately.
My 4/75 works great with Turbolink. But then again, Ken Mosher designed TL so well I think you could interface it with a cell phone.
There is a lot to be said for keeping things simple.
Yes, there's always a lot to be said for the "kiss" principle. Simplicity is always best, but wait till see the incredible amount of info available on DS!!! While TurboLink is great for the vast majority of Turbo Regals out there. It's always been my contention that when at the race track (when things are getting serious), and running quicker than low 12's, the high speed data rate is just "gotta have". A lot can happen in that missing 1.4 seconds between regular scan tool frames!!
BTW, let me know if you have a problem finding a "tweenie". I may be able to scrounge one up around here.

I would sure appreciate that Dave. If it takes a while to get one from the mfg,-- maybe I could get one from you now and just send you the "new" one when I do get it.
Dwight, other than a period when my lap top refused to work with either DS or TL for some unknown reason which suddenly rectified itself, I have had no problmes with DS and the MaxEffort.
The biggest problem that seems inherent to DS is the difficulty in making and keeping a good connection between the ecm and the DS connector.
If you start getting strange readings, check the plug, it is probably on too far or needs cleaning.

My ecm was previously modded for 55# injs by Dan Smith. He usually also mods them for the DS while he's at it. This made things really easy for me.
Since nothing had been plugged on the terminals for quite some time,I did slightly scuff them with a pencil eraser before plugging the ribbon connector on. I played with different depths on the plug also.
I'll probably make a small spacer out of rubber or plastic to keep it from setting in too far after I find the ideal depth.
Looking forward to all the additional data, but I'll probably be overwhelmed at first. (I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computer stuff :^O
I will miss the Boost record feature :^(
I suppose I'll put an aquarium check valve in the line to the boost gauge and tee in a bleed valve to release the captured pressure after the pass.
Kind of a shade tree peak hold boost gauge but it should work ok..

I think a spacer is the answer...keep the plug from sliding on too far.
