Jeff Yip (Carwriter) | Thursday, April 04, 2002 - 03:30 pm first, if there's a better forum to address to, please let me know. are there any proven, safe modifications that apply to the non-boosted 3.8s? for example, what about a 160-degree thermostat? I want to keep this car for as long as possible but would enjoy a little extra power. my dad, a longtime los angeles buick salesman and fan, recently passed away and, along with great memories, he left me his 1995 Regal with the 3800. (he admitted that mom wouldn't let him buy an impala SS!) as he did with all his cars, he took wonderful care of his last one. on a recent trip from the bay area to houston it did 27+ mpg -- even though it was packed so heavily it looked like a lowrider and ran 80-90 mph with a/c on most of the way. (even worse, i discovered afterward, it had a dirty air filter) thanks for any tips you can pass along. it's now out of warranty and i'll be taking it to body shop for some paint blistering that suddenly showed up after a visit to the wash rack. |
