OK,...I have properly set my
* IAC
* TPS
* Fuel Pressure w/
* new plugs/ wires
* New Red Armstrong Chip
* Replaced the cat converter
* new O2 seneor
* ECT......ECT....ect...ect EVERYTHING IS FREAKING NEW!!!!!!

I have done everything by the book and the harder I try the worse it seems to get!
This damn GN is becomming hoplessly pathetic
it is •••• poor slow! I cant even barley brake a 14.9 in a quarter,...and by now, Im sure it cant even do that!I am almost ready to sell it!
It seems to run good as long as you are just putting around BUT,
If you try to maintain 2000 rpm in park,...it sounds like you have a huge cam, and it rolls black smoke!,...however the damn turbo-link says it is running lean????? now what the hell is that about? this thing will choke you if you let it run in the garage. and everytime I try to get on it,...it wants to fall on its face befor it goes anywhere?Its got a terrible idle,...and to beat it all....there is no timing tab to set the cam sensor properly....havent figured that one out yet? I have done all the things suggested by every considerate person on this site,...and I most certainly thank you all!!!!!
However,..Im having no luck w/ this thing and the only 2 people in my entire town that have Turbo Regals....dont know crap about them,...I need some hands on help,....Im about ready to give up!!!!

ANYONE ...Please feel free to call me anytime if you have any suggestions or e-mail 513-464-0478

Mick, this may not help but, I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm also new to turbo Regals, and mine is giving me one heck of headache plus an empty wallet. Anyway I've discovered that with the vacum line off my adj. fuel pressure regulator the static fuel pressure is set at 42. With vacum line on it's set at 40 - 41 and sometimes it doesn't change at all. This leads me to believe that when boost comes in the fuel pressure is not increasing accordingly(1psi fuel for 1psi boost).
Which would lead to a lean condition at WOT. Unfortunately, my fuel pressure gauge isn't long enough to tape to the windshield so that I can verify that this condition is true.

Laundry list:

rebuilt engine (1000 miles on it)
ATR down pipe
ATR 2.5 inch exhaust/race cat
stock turbo, injector's, and intercooler
MAF pipe and K&N 9inch cone filter
New Tomco MAF sensor
New O2 sensor
Walbro 307 fuel pump/hot wire kit
Adj. fuel pressure regulator
Adj. wastegate actuator
VDO boost gauge
VDO oil pressure gauge
Turbolink
EPROM: Old Superchip(came with the car) or Thrasher 92 octane chip

I can't get more than 14psi boost and have seen as much 10.9 degrees of spark retard at 10psi boost. In conclusion, I think I may have a vacum leak. If there is anyone that can shed some light on this please feel free to reply.

Thanks in advance

Mick,
In my experience, the bad times are few and far between, while the good times are many.

Why don't you call armstrongs shop and tell them what your turbolink is saying and maybe they can adjust your chip.

What injectors do you have?

Mick and Wilburt,
The first thing I would suggest is that you get the timing tab and set the cam sensor. If you've only got green stripes, then try the stock chip if you have one, and try working with that until you get everything squared away. Then try the Red's chip. I would also look for vacuum leaks. Do you have a bleed valve for adjusting the boost? If so, then I would take it out for now. You don't want any vacuum leaks. Also, be sure that your FPR is working properly. Make sure it drops, when you put the vacuum on. If it doesn't drop enough, be sure that you have enough vacuum there. That's all I can think of for now. Good Luck.

Brian

Did you get to the Malfunction Codes on the website? Here's what it says:

CODE 31

Trouble Code 31 indicates that the Wastegate Solenoid may not be functioning correctly. The wastegate solenoid is controlled by a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from the ECM. The ECM controls turbo boost by varying the PWM waveform (duty cycle) to the wastegate. The wastegate responds by bleeding off exhaust pressure upstream of the turbine, thus controlling boost pressure.

The conditions for setting this code are:

the ECM is commanding a solenoid duty cycle of between 5% and 94%, and
no electrical feedback is being received from the solenoid, and
the above conditions are met for 2 seconds.

Typical causes for this code include:

1) Poor or corroded connections between the ECM and the wastegate solenoid
2) Open or shorted solenoid
3) Defective, sticking or maladjusted wastegate linkage
4) Defective ECM

Ensure correct operation of other engine subsystems, including but not limited to the TPS and MAF sensors and check the wastegate actuation hardware.

Sounds like a bad ground or an ECM problem. Turbolink should be able to eliminate or verify your MAF and TPS as culprits, leading me to say that the wastegate solenoid could be causing your problems. Your FP is bouncing all over probably because the car can't idle smooth. WHatever is causing it is doing a pretty severe job of wreaking havoc on a lot of things - and on these cars - the ECM controls your basic air/fuel/spark, so I hate to say I think it's the ECM or a bad chip. See if one of your other Turbo Regal neighbors will let you plug their ECM into your harness and see for sure. That will eliminate the ECM and Chip right off the bat. You keep getting Code 31 - thats the Wastegate Solenoid...so start checking there for trouble?

Sounds like a nightmare - I wish I could step in and take a look with ya - but it's something, and once you find it you'll be glad as hell you did.

Dont sell it because nobody's gonna pay good $$$ for a car that runs like that, and if it ends up being something stuipd you're really gonna go nuts and kick yourself! So you'd be out your GN, and shallow in the pockets after the sell!

..hey - i'll give ya $1000 for it. I just better not see it on ebay! ;) Hang on a bit longer, chief - there's not much left that can be causing all this..

Guys, I've been through all this stuff with my GN many times over. I know how frustrating it can be, trust me. In turn, I have learned how to better diagnose problems. So, hang in there, the solution will come up and it will most likely be something really stupid. Some of the smallest things can cause these cars to act like they are going to die......lol. Right now, my modified GN has oil coming from the EGR valve. The EGR is filled in on the heads, guess it's getting sucked up from the valley somehow? Darn these cars!!

Everyone has their troubles, but there is always a simple solution ... I totally rebuilt my car from top to bottom, had feul troubles, then transmission troubles .. then i snapped the crank so i rebuilt the engine! and when I got it back it it would not work right at all ... missed the whole racing season and everything ... my scanner wasnt picking up the problem ... but after replacing almost every sensor on the thing ... it finially came up on the scanner ... it was the MAF ... when I was putting it back together, a friend of mine was helping me and put it in backwards ... I turned it around and worked awesome ... funny how the problem is always the last place where you look :P
