I have this problem, It was happening before I blew up my engine, I snaped the crank on it, and i believe it was due to this problem. Now My engine is completely rebuild with many new sensors, but I'm having this trouble. I notice it more coming out of first gear more then anything, it hits a point makes a poping/scraping noise coming out of the engine, looses power, i shift and the power is right back again. I thought it was a feul problem so i rebuilt the stock injectors, and it still does it, I know my feul system is fine now because I was having a lot of trouble with it. Anyone have any clues?

What's the scan tool say?

What RPM are you shifting at?

Mine was popping/backfiring at full boost, just as it shifted out of first. I changed the coil pack and MAF and it is running fine now. Good luck, Billy

I had this same problem right before I broke the crank in mine, I was running about 24psi and would notice the problem anywhere after 18psi, my engine is still apart, hope we can figure it out before I get it back together

yea, i broke my crank, rebuilt the engine and it still does it. I have a new Coil Pack on it and a new MAF, now I have a chip in the computer from the previous owner, i do believe it is for the larger injectors, but i only have the stock ones in it now, I will be upgrading very soon, hopefully that will fix the problem .. But i do believe that is what I snapped my crank

I didnt run it with the scan tool yet, and I'm not sure what RPM Im shifting at, the light doesnt work on it .. I just bought a tack for it, yet to be installed, waiting for spring.

Trans. Front pump or balooning converter. You will blow all your rebuilds if the trans isn't fixed.

GUYS,..GUYS,...
I think your experiencing some serious KNOCK! do you have a knock gauge? I may have read the post wrong but your comp. will retard the timing if it detects knock therefore loosing power. to much boost and not enough fuel! that will snap a crank, pop a gasket throw a rod ....depending on how much overboost! I know I can hear a popping noise when mine knocks but quickly take my foot out of it if this should occur!...hope I have been some help!

Glad to help out,...Although I strongly suggest that you find a better way to regulate the boost do you have an adjustible acctuator? If not, Get one!,...It is a must!

I have an '85 T-Type and yesterday while accelerating at WOT about 15 psi boost it made a popping sound and the motor stalled for a second. at the same time I lost my boost gauge. now i gotta be careful accelerating because too much boost and it'll start popping again. it was running fine before this. also, it now reads error code 44 lean exhaust which it didn't before. i know i need to upgrade the fuel pump, it's still stock, could that be all it is? Current mods are: 87 turbo, 9" K&N, Kirban cold air kit, red stripe injectors, adj. waste gate, adj fuel press. reg. Thanks.

Check the vac hose to your waste gate.

would that cause it to lean out and make a popping sound like that?

Not exactly because, if the hose came off you would totally spike your boost! I have seen mine peg at 30 psi and damn near pull the front wheels of the ground. I would reset my IAC and TPS and check your fuel pressure as well, if these things are not "balanced" with eachother they can cause lots of weird problems. And what do you mean by you lost your boost gauge? an after market gauge is an absolute must!
GOOD LUCK!
