I just purchased an 87 GN. The car is bone stock. I will order the hooker cat back exhaust from summit. I would like to know the type of computer chips summit offer. They sell the jet stage II chip that needs a 160 degree thermostat and a high flow exhaust in order for the car to run well. Also summit offrs the hypertech thermo chip. Are these chips any good and which one should I purchase, or are there any other chips available that are better. Thanks
Not that Summit is NG but it would be better to order the exhaust from one of our GN supporters. Take a look at the ATR Stainless Steel Exhaust.
My advice is to stay away from "commercial" chips. Get one from one of the normal GN vendors (I use a Red Armstrong chip).
The 160 degree is a good choice no matter whose you use.
What other options do you have and is there a GN shop near you?
If your car is bone stock, there are other things you should be doing. We need to know more. Mileage, rear-end, tires, bushings installed, frames braces installed? Valve springs changed? How is the timing chain? Have you done the spring cleaing? Do you have a scan tool?

I am also contemplating new exhaust. In a perfect world (where money grew on trees) I would buy the ATR system, but in the real world the Hooker system is MUCH more afordable (1/2 price!). Since I will not be driving my GN in the winter should last almost forever. Is there a "GN supporter" that sells this system or one comparitively priced? If not some of us may just have to buy from the "Chevy/Ford supporters" LOL.

Yes, a number of them will sell the Hooker System. Jack Cotton, Cotton's Performance is one of them. There are others.

Why would you want to get your car tuned badly? I'm not sure we could find a GN shop to do that but you might find a local garage to do it for you.
