The guy I purchased the car off of, said that the SES light is on because of the old wiring left in the car from when it was converted to 87 motor and injection. So my next question is, is the Chip from an 87 or is the ECM itself from an 87? how can i find this out. He says that the chip is stock, and it makes me wonder if its a stock 87 chip or if it has the 83 chip in-which doesn't sound right, cause the whole setup changed? can anyone help me figure this out? If needed I'll look at the ECM and get numbers off it and or the chip to see what I got? I need to know this stuff cause I would like to upgrade the chip!

First thing... it is probable that the ECM was swapped. An 87 chip won't work in the earlier ECM (and vice versa). Numbers on the ECM will tell you for sure.

Are you sure this is an 83? Is it carbed? If so, then the ECMs aren't really compatible.

I got a question on my ECM. I dont know if is stock 84/85 or a aftermarket or upgraded? The outside of the case says "Another Microtech Remanufactured High Performance Equipment" the chip in the inside has a orange dot on it. and says nothing on it. There is a number on the outside 59-6459. I dont know if this is enough info on it to determine what it is? its in a 85 GN. Thanks

Well the car is an 83, and I know this car has the 87 motor and EFI on it, so now i know the ECM was swapped also, i just wasn't for sure on what he exactly did in the swap. Now i know a little more bout the car i can pursue more mods. :)

I scanned the ECM today. I got code 23. Manifold Air temp code. How does this affect the ability of the computer to make the car perform? as in closed/open loop? Again this car is an 83, has 83 wiring harness but 87 ECM and motor, so I'm assuming there are some wiring that isn't used any more? I'm glad this is the Only code I got :) so once I can get rid of this fault code I can quit staring at my SES light. thanks for all the help guys

the more I learn, the more I can help the rest of us.....
