I have a 87 gn that is stock..completely. It has ~120k miles and has not been started since 1998. I did the spring cleaning, thoroughly. Drained the fuel and flushed fuel lines. Finally started the engine and allowed to idle till at operating temperature. I drove the car easy for about a week then with increasing accelerating takeoffs. It ran outstanding. Now it has been about a week and the boost gets to about 5psi and engine starts to surge and lose power. I can let off the gas and go again and it will take off for a second and then back to the poor operating. Any ideas on where to go from here?
My guess is that the fuel sock is collapsed. My car had the same thing when i bought it at 12K miles - it sat for too long, and it got soft and collapsed onto itself choking fuel flow to the engine. Draining the tank would have made matters worse im afraid. You may have even had some pieces dry up and fall off and now are in your fuel filter. Both the sock and filter need to be replaced at this point.
Start there. It really sounds like the car is fine until it wants more fuel, then it acts up...classic symptoms of this being cause of your trouble.

First thing to check is the vacuum line that runs from wastegate to intake. It has a bad habbit of comeing off or burning thru.
all right I have replaced the fuel filter and now the check engine light is on. Oh since I am a newby to this i guess the fuel sock is on the fuel pump and the tank will have to be removed to check this?? I checked the vacuum hoses and they were fine. Might be time to get turbo link?
oh one other thing the engine falters when i get on the gas(easy or hard)
If all you changed is the fuel filter, and you got a check engine light. You might be better off checking fuel PRESSURE at the injector rails with a gauge before jumping into the tank. I still think it's the sock for what it's worth.
Cleaned the sock and another new filter on the fuel. That made huge improvements! I bought a MAF because the check engine light was on and this was the cause. Now she is running outstanding...we were out chirping the tires yesterday. Thanks for the help!
