I bought my ttype about 3 months ago believing it was stock. I put on an adj. fuel press. regulator and a test pipe, as well as a full tuneup. I was told that the car was an ex police car. I found someone selling a thrasher chip on ebay, its for 92 octane gas and has an antitheft feature in itplus a lean highway thing for milage. Anyway, as I went to install the chip today, I found another chip was already in there. It was a Z-industries chip, said std inj, 160, 19lbs. I have never heard of it or seen any reference to it on here. I was wondering which one is better. Plus when I put the thrasher in, the car ran really rich and basically wouldnt rev much past 3000. Anyone have any ideas?
I am running the fuel pressure at 45lbs. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have one of the old Z-Tech chips. It was one of the first aftermarket chips for G/N's. I wouldn't really suggest using that one if thats what it is. They tend to wash down your cylinder walls!
As for the Thrasher, do you have you the Fuel Pressure at 45# with the Vac. line OFF? HTH, Curt.
The chip says Z-industries on it, not sure about it being a z-tech chip. As for the thrasher, I have my fuel pressure at 45# at the rail with the vac. line off, so thats not the problem. Actually not only does the car run like crap with the thrasher chip in it but i get a check engine light too. Last time I tried the thrasher chip (because I have tried it like 4 times hoping for it to work) the check engine light just flickered on and off, and when I tried to get a code out of it , the check engine light did the same thing. When I put in the Z chip, the car runs nice. I think I am going to have one made for the car. I dont want to run junk in my car.

You might want to start off using a stock chip and stock fuel pressure and see how that runs first. If there are no codes and it runs good, then upgrade to an aftermarket chip thats right for your combo. HTH, Curt.

A stock chip is not an option at this point. I dont have one. The car came with the Z-industries chip in it. I am not going to buy a stock chip for the car when I will just take it out to replace it with another chip. I have been around cars for a long time and do know how to tune, im not someone just throwing parts at it. All I wanted to know was if anyone knew what the Z-industries chip was and if it was any good. I do not intend to make this car a drag race only car, I have one of those already. I just want to make it some fun for the street (maybe run high 11's). I know all the steps to do with the car and what I am going to do. If no one has any ideas on this chip, its going to go in the trash and I will just have a chip burned for me as I dont have the equiptment to do it myself. So, if anyone knows some info about a Z-industries chip, let me know.

A couple things.
First, if you are REAL curious about the chip, find someone who burns chips who would be willing to plug in the Z-Industries chip and tell you what is in it and what injectors it is for... same with the Thrasher.

Another possibility on the chips you have, is to contact "Z" and Thrasher directly.
On the stock chip, if you have stock injectors, it would be a good idea to get one anyhoot to get the car running correctly first in its original configuration.

Maybe the chip was messed up and that's why they sold it? Or maybe it was okay the last time they ran it but accidentally zapped it(ESD)? I would recommend a stock chip, as Dean said, it's nice to have a baseline(stock) chip around, just in case. It certainly can't hurt, especially for only $10. Then after things seems to be okay and you learn how the car acts with a stock chip(Bruce's idea) then I would do as you already said, have a chip burnt for the car, but I wouldn't throw the z chip away, even if it's old technology, it works.....right? I never throw away something that works, you never know when it could come in handy. Good luck.
