Just picked up my frist gn today, and three times already has it completely shut down on me. It seems to happen at no specific time, just ill be driving and the car will shut off. I then have to stop, puthe car in park, then start t again and it starts fine. Also, the engine light was not on this morning, but driving it home tonight, it appeared. The reason i am asking about this is because when i accelerate away from a traffic light, the engine light goes off for about thirty seconds, then when i settel back down to a cruise, it comes back on. Any ideas? Im going to get a scantool soon, just havent had a chance yet as i just bought the car today. Also, does anyone happen to know what i have to do to fix a sagging drivers door that wont close gith unless i slam it?

The car shutting off could be a number of things but first, tell us about the car. How long has it been sitting? What has been done to it? Has the fuel pump been replaced? When was the fuel filter changed last? Any mods to the engine?
Next, check the positive battery cable as it runs along underneath the passenger side of the block, it should not be touching anything.
Check the grounds on the engine, they should all be clean.
You can "see" what the code is by shorting the ALDL, check the website for this information. Once you can tell what code(s) the ECM is producing, we can focus your efforts there.
Also, check the MAF by lighly tapping on it with a screwdrive with the engine at idle. If the car falters, there is a good chance the MAF is bad. Check the coil resistance with an ohm meter, again the website has information on this.

Thanks for replying. Im not sure how long the car was sitting, i just know that i t wasnt driven often at all. It has only 10,000 miles on itin the past 6 years. The only modifications to the car were by the previous owner and include, adjustable wastegate, kenne bell ram air system, and i think thats about it(as far as i cant tell) the car is mostly original. It only shuts down after i let off the gas, and only some of the time, not always, so i think u may be right about some sort of electrical problem, im goin to check that out right now. The MAF is fine, as is the coil. Also the check engine light is off, and the only thing ive done to the car so far is change the oil(the oil was very black however) Also, the car is running very rich and im not sure how to correct that problem on this car. I am putting in a new fule filter today so hopefully that will helpe a little. thanks for your help and hope to hear from you soon

Hi all, first let me add my thanks to everyone who contributes to this site...great info and good crowd willing to help. Just tacking on to this post because I have a similiar problem with my 86GN. Just had short block replaced and now the car runs very strong. It'll get up and go if I get on it and stay there. I've had a recurring problem with the motor dying if I get on it for a short period of time and let off. I went to scoot around some traffic to get to the on ramp and it died....bad place to quit on me. It's happened several times but seems only to happen when I get on it and have to let off quickly. It always starts right back up and runs like a champ. It's basically stock, I have a Walbro on the way..along with K&N filter, but aside from that it's unmodified. Anyone seen this problem before. No scantool yet to troubleshoot further...wish list.
This will occasionally happen when the Idle air control (IAC) valve needs adjustment. Adjust to specs (30-40). This web site should have this info. But if that fails, check the cam sensor settings. If out 180 degrees it will definitely cause this problem. Again, this info should be found on this web site. These are 2 free procedures you can try, should solve your problems. If not than we have to look else where. Keep us posted, and we'll figure it together.

Yep, I agree. I had this very problem, if I stepped on it and then let off quickly, the car would stall. No warning or anything, just would shut off.
I found that the idle screw was too far in and was the car was relying on the IAC to feed enough air to keep it running. Once I set things correctly, no more problems.
If the IAC doesn't do it - i'd look at swapping chips and/or checking for vacuum leaks in all of your hoses.
