Ok guys I love Grand Nationals but Ive already got a project going. I own a 1989 Cavalier Z24 front wheel drive with a 3.4 stroker motor The car runs a constant low 14.Of course its not fast enough so what better to do than to put the heart and lungs of a 3.8 Grand National 3.8 Turbo motor and convert to real wheel drive.I've started doing research with SW & Alston with regards to the convert from FWD to Rear Wheel Drive. But Im not familiar with all the different setups you can do to modify the 3.8 and trans. I'm looking to get into 10s with a setup using nitrous.Right now there is a 86 motor on E-Bay but how do I know if it is a true GN motor.Im not really concerned if it runs but I want the real deal Thanks in advance Don Link
It would be a lot easier to start out with a complete Turbo Regal to be sure you get all the sensors and specific components it takes to install the drive train in the car. Just buying the engine will leave you several hundred dollars short of parts you will need to gather.
Before installing the engine hopefully you will spend some time on this list and other Turbo Regal sites to see the recipes for upgrading Turbo Regals and tune them. Nitrous is not a proven method.
I have seen an 80's FWD Riv converted to RWD at a local car show it seems for all the work, money and aggravation it would be a lot less frustrating to start out with a RWD car in the first place.
