3 years ago when I bought my '87 GN, the previous owner gave me an aftermarket chip that he never used. Since I'm running a GNX chip, I've never felt it necessary to try the chip. However, I'm in the process of building a front mount intercooler and have plans for a TA-49 turbo, so I am looking for a chip upgrade. THe back of this chip has a red(bright orange) sticker and has "93" printed on it. My first impression is that it is a Red Armstrong. Can anyone help in identifying this?
Don't think there's anything particuarly wonderful about the GNX chip.
The one you describe could be a chip from Red. Are there any other numbers on that decal as well?
Thanks for the reply Scott! I know there is alot of potential to be had that the GNX chip doesn't allow; my car just seems to run smoother with it over the stock. The chip in question has only the red sticker with the "93" printed on it. If it is a REd Armstrong, am I going to need an adjustable wastegate, or does the chip adjust for it?
I believe that any TR that has any mods should have an adjustable wastegate. The boost control is not a 'feedback' system on these cars. (i.e. the ECM has absolutely no way of knowing how must boost the motor is getting) A 'ram air' kit, free-er flowing exhaust, a 'test pipe' or any other airflow mods will potentially cause the boost to rise and the control systems on the car can not compensate.
Red's chips may have '93' or 'R93' on the sticker on the back, but they usually have 3 or 4 additional numbers or letters in the corners.
My chip has CMW 0602 marked on it. Is this a factory chip?
