I was looking through an article in GMHTP and noticed they were using an alternative coolant in one of their project cars. It was called NPG+ and made by Evans Cooling Systems. This waterless coolant is suppossed to have a boiling point of about 375F at 1atm compared to 50/50 coolant which boils at about 225F. This higher boiling point allows the coolant to stay in a liquid state around the cylinders to help dissipate heat and control cylinder temperatures better than 50/50 coolant which boils because of the high temperatures in the areas of the cylinders. For TR owners this could potentially mean more boost and less knock on the same octane gas. Also becuase it is waterless, corrosion is not a concern and becuase of the higher boiling point,a low to no pressure system is used. Hope this doesn't sound like a plug it's not. I've never used the stuff. However I did find the article interesting because of the different approach used to make HP. Has anybody used this stuff? If so does it work? Want to know if its worth spending $22 a gallon on.

It certainly sounds interesting...though a bit expensive. I'm personally only aware of one TR owner using this stuff, and he's run down to 11.0 using it. Seems to have good experience with it. Note that very complete draining of standard coolant and water from throughout the system is required.

You can find more information on their home page at http://www.evanscooling.com/ There is also a special section detailing installation details for TRs at http://www.evanscooling.com/html/bGN.htm

Doesn't distilled water with rust inhibitor in a pressurized system work better than 50/50?
