chad frey (Gn86er) | Sunday, August 26, 2001 - 07:18 pm After trail and error, I have determined that a rattling noise is coming from within the brake system. This noise is still present after replacing the brakes(stock). The noise is not coming from anything else because when i press the brake over a bump, no noise is heard, but as soon as I depress the pedal, the noise is apparent on a bump....ay suggestions? chad |
Brian Lee (Brianwagonlee) | Monday, August 27, 2001 - 09:29 am Ooh Ooh, I know this one. I had the same problem. Every time I hit a bump I would get a rattle noise. If I had the brakes on, it would not do it. It turned out to be the calipers. There are o-rings that go into the calipers, and the mounting bolts go through them. If you still have the original calipers, then these o-rings are probably almost completely gone. You can easily replace these, but in talking with my mechanic, he talked me out of it. He said if the calipers were that old, then I would be better off replacing them. They are relatively cheap, and why waste your time replacing the o-rings. Besides, new ones come real clean. Just degrease them, and give them a good coat of paint, and they will look nicer than the rusty ones you are taking off. Brian |
