Under the Drag Racing a TR resource, it says "Run the fuel pump to empty the tank, by using an insulated wire to jumper between the GRAY test connector (in the wiring harness up by the alternator) and the HOT terminal on the back of the alternator." Is the gray test connector the one that appears to be unused sticking out of the wiring harness? Is this still the proper way to run the pump even with a hot wire setup (I didn't install the hot wire kit)? BTW, what is this gray connector there for? To specifically run the fuel pump for test and diagnostics?

That's what the gray wire is for. If you have a plug in hot wire by one of the vendor i can't say
If you have a 12 gauge wire from the relay to tank than run a wire from the same connection on the relay and put an alligator clip on it. When you need to drain the tank just hookup to the pos. cable.
