gregory cassidy (Badassgn) | Monday, June 03, 2002 - 04:08 pm I heard you can run straight pipes on a GN I was wondering if that is true? |
Shawn (Jsta6) | Monday, June 03, 2002 - 06:13 pm sure can. And it ain't that loud becuase the turbo acts as kind of a muffler. Of course, that is MY opinion. Others will say it is to loud... |
CURT ENGLEHARDT (Turbo2) | Friday, June 14, 2002 - 06:31 am I've been running T.H. 3" Downpipe,3" freeflow CAT,and Dual Straight Pipes for about 4 years.I pass Safety and Emissions every year so far. It's just loud enough to sound NASTY! |
Bill Ritter (18yognnut) | Friday, June 21, 2002 - 07:55 pm Besides being louder, is there any real benefit to not running mufflers? would that help you spool up a little quicker because of less restriction? |
Josh S (Jastrckl) | Sunday, July 21, 2002 - 07:30 am Depends on the mufflers, some are more restrictive than others. I know people with very similarly modded GNs, both running 11's and one is through mufflers, the other not. I think he was using ATR's stainless dual setup. It also depends on what other mods you have... restrictive stock downpipe? Then it makes no sense to take out the mufflers. For flowing air, the "only as strong as the weakest link" metaphor applies, IMHO. Anything trying to push air (in this case, the engine pushing against both turbo and exhaust) is limited by the most restrictive point. It's like water pumps, if you have a kink in the hose, it doesn't matter if the rest of the hose is 3". The pump still is limited by the kink. |
