Kenneth Williams (Gnnova) | Wednesday, June 05, 2002 - 04:31 pm Does anyone know how to test the solenoid to see if its ok. I know they're supposed to bleed off pressure. I have two and niether one will pass air through, weather they are energized or not. I have a problem with my boost spiking to about 3 pounds above the set point then dropping about 3 pounds below and then slowly recovering to 17lbs. The restrictor is the correct size (.050) and on the side towards the turbo out let. Any suggestions. Ken 87GN |
eric smith (Erock1971) | Wednesday, June 05, 2002 - 08:31 pm I have been trying to fix a very simmeler problem for 3WEEKS now and I have finnaly corrected it by installing a bleed of valve of my own . I know its not fixing the problem I had, but it works GREAT! Even before the problem got real bad my boost would always bounce up then drop then climb up to where it was supposed to be... I never got full boost untill middle of 2nd gear...Not any more! I dont know if there is any down fall to what im doing but it works great, it immediatly spikes to about 1 psi over then drops right down to where its supposed to be. It is much faster and MUCH more stable now..... if you dont like this way no problem if somone out there thinks this is a bad idea plese respond..... well here it is... All I did was connect a neadle valve to the end of the vacume line ,,where it used to go into the waistgate silanoid.. and adjusted to where i wanted... there is 1 down fall the computer can not controll boost anymore... but most chips dont retard boost during detonation anyway...I dont recomend this to you if you are not fammiliar with it or do not have a boost gauge..and are good at adjusting....a knock sensor is a very good idea also good luck...........sorry for the long reply eric smith |
Scott Przybysz (Priz) | Wednesday, June 05, 2002 - 10:09 pm Here's a very good idea from Mike ... Upgraded turbo and stock wastegate puck hole ? If so, you may need to enlarge it, mine is 1.375" dia with a stock turbo, solid boost. Mike Nelson |
Kenneth Williams (Gnnova) | Sunday, June 09, 2002 - 05:12 am I think I found my problem. I took my stock wastegate actuator and made it adjustable. Set the rod length and tried it. My boost is now stable. The one that was on my car seemed ok. I put a vacuum pump on it and it held vacuum. Has anyone seen this happen before. I don't think my original one will holdup because it was full of oil when I first got my GN. Any suggestion on a good replacement actuator company. Ken 87GN |
