Matthew Dorey (Mattd) | Monday, July 22, 2002 - 05:03 pm I recently purchased an 87 GN and just noticed that someone has removed the cat, a straight pipe now resides here. The exhaust is in very good shape, but should I have a cat reinstalled?? Matt |
Tim Ferry (87typet) | Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 10:42 am No, it's called a test pipe. It's supposed to be for better airflow through the exhaust. The only reason to put one back on would be to pass inspection depending on where you live. Tim |

Nick Micale (Arizonagn) | Wednesday, October 23, 2002 - 05:31 pm Frank, do not believe the "hype" you hear and read! In 15 years with these cars, NEVER seen any cat, even the supposed high flo, that will flow as good as a straight pipe. |
frank marshall (Turbofrank) | Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 03:39 am No hype just experence i've owned car since 87 been thru the test pipe, converter thing the works. No big difference. If you live in a state with emission check it's a hassle. To me it's all about where you live and your choice. |
Tim Ferry (87typet) | Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 08:22 am I just put a test pipe on my '87 T-Type. Stock downpipe and exhaust, yet now everytime I drive the car, the service engine light comes on. It seems to run better to me, but that light just stares at me. Anyone know why that would happen? |
