I have on my car 009's, adj. FPR, ugraded fuel pump, hot wire kit, 3in terry houston DP, and a 2.5" hooker cat back. i was wondering which turbo i should upgrade to. Also am planning on getting a new stock location IC and if need be a torque converter.

It's hard to beat a TA-49 turbo for all around use. If you can find a TA-60(+) even better. TA's will push more air than the 009's can deliver fuel for. As far as a torque conv., I have basically the same set-up w/36# injectors and still use the stock converter. It'll hold at the line to 2800rpm. I can't see dropping a grand for a good new one with little or no gain. Mark Jackson makes stock location stretch intercoolers (Charged Air Systems). Nice if you can get one. I have a 19 row and he may have a 24 row out now.
Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

What about the Pt-51? I heard they are the same as the TA-49's. Have your un you car at the track and if you did what did it run?

Thanks

The PT-51 SOUNDS like a good unit, but you may want to do a search on the Turbobuick.com site. A lot of people are very dissatisfied with the reliability of these units. Have heard nothing but good reports on the TA49 and TE44 units. You'll also find guys that have had great luck with the 51, but I personally wouldn't take a chance.

This car is raced every weekend between march and september. It's an 87 GN with 146,000 miles and more than 300 1/4 mile passes. And it's never had a head off of it. Here's the recipe:
XP+ pump Hot wired w/ adj. regulator, 36# Blue Tops
Tin Man Cold Air Kit, MAF w/one screen removed
TA-49, TH 3" down pipe, open dump(2 1/2" Hooker cat-back on the street)
19 row stock location cooler
GSCA stock replacement valve springs less cups
Quad Air: volt booster, plug wires and 108 chip
Tuning with 4000E then Direct Scan
Stock powermaster, tranny, converter, rear-end, suspension(front sway bar removed)
Best ET on M/T 28x10.5 slicks: 11.80@114mph
Best ET on Drag Radials: 11.97@113mph
Static fuel pressure 50+ psi, 23~25 psi boost, VP C16 fuel (117 octane)
All runs are soft launches at 4~5 psi boost (breaking parts is cool but expensive)
As you can see, I have the fuel pressure turned up very high. The 36# injectors are holding me back right now. I'm either going to add a seventh injector or go to 55#ers.
As for the TA-49, I have seen guys run low 10's with this turbo with no problem. With your 009's and a good chip you should break 11.5.
Good Luck

hey, I have an 87 t type pretty much stock, except for a 62mm cold side on my turbo ( I scored a turbonetics polished unit for 50 bucks) it is pretty wicked out of the hole but dies off after midway through 2nd, where do I go to get a bigger compressor and elbow for a decent price
