While I was replacing the wastegate actuator on my new turbo, I managed to overtorque one of the bolts that holds it to the turbo. And, of course, it stripped. So now there are only five good bolts holding the compressor housing to the turbo.

1. Are five good bolts enough to keep the compressor housing from leaking?
2. Does anyone know of a way to repair this?

I checked, and the compressor wheel still spins nice and free. My gut is telling me that the housing won't leak, and even if it does the clearances are so tight between the housing and the housing back plate that the leak will be very, very small.

Any thoughts? BTW this is a TA-49, in case it matters.

Aluminum is pretty soft, so it likes to strip. I'd repair it ... there's a couple of ways:

1. Get a helicoil kit... basically, you drill it out a bit bigger and screw the thread insert into it, which is often times stronger than the original.

2. Go one size bigger with a tap and use a bigger bolt for that hole (kind of the goober repair though).

I don't think it will leak, but since it is the wastegate actuator, it will be pulling on that spot all the time and could eventually screw up the bolt holding the actuator on.
