I'll try a different approach, as I got no takers on my last post.

While changing my fuel pressure and making an adjustment on my wastegate one day, a funny thing occured....my car runs like crap now. I suspect fuel pressure regulator or actuator, because those are the only changes I made, and the car ran great until that. All of my hoses are on tight and there are no leaks in my vaccuum lines.

The car hits about 17# and will start sputtering. Some times I will see KR, sometimes there is none. My FP is 45, Carter 92 for 36's, no cat, and I'm running alcohol. Does it with and without alcohol on. Before I made those 2 changes I could hit 23-24 in 1st gear and 20 in 3rd gear.

I'll post my results when I find out what is wrong

Alcohol systems work great but they must be fine tuned. I had the same problem with my car. I found out even with the alcohol system off I had a seepage problem. I bought a NOS 16060 alky/fuel solenoid and my problem went away. Completely drain the alcohol tank and take the car out to see if it makes any difference. Careful if you are running pump gas with 20-23 psi don’t kill you car. Make sure you are monitoring the engine some how before you do this.

Thanks for the reply Wally. Put in a new boost acutuator (the original one was still in car) and I completely removed the welded up pipe SMC Kit by the way) and put the stock one back on to verify any leaks etc. I've turned the boost down to about 16-17. It's an intermittent problem. The car lays down and kind of sputters, sometimes with KR and sometimes not. Without any changes, I can go from 0-3 KR at full throttle in any gear, to 10+! On the average it seems to like easing into the boost instead of hammering it. But it has sputtered without being in full enrichment mode too.

This all started when I made an adjustment on the fuel pressure and lowered boost. Has not been the same since. The FP regulator holds pressure. Although I noticed (when the alcohol was still hooked up) that the car did not ping any worse when it was down to 38 versus the normal 44-45 I have it at when using the Thrasher 92 for 36s.

Tomorrow I'm going to take it to a local expert and pay the piper. I'm sure it will end up being a stupid vaccuum line or something that I didn't see.

Craig

Hey Craig I figured out what is wrong with your car. What Craig? Well the nice Fuel Pressure guage you bought actually was slightly inaccurate. No kidding Craig? Yeah. It turns out the reason you were sputtering but not knocking, is you were Pig rich. Turned down the fuel pressure using a good guage and the problem went away.

Wally, I do appreciate your response. I took the alcohol out of the equasion, and it made it easier to work out. Thanks.

Craig

Craig,

I am glad Craig was helpful. It is always nice when a problem is fixed. Take care.
