Hi, im new to the boards and have a couple questions. I have recently purchased an 87 GN there are a few things that are bothering me. The owner before me did some mods, Flowmaster exhaust, pitbull chip, 3' downpipe, and some other things. The car has about 87,000 miles on it, and im concerned about the stock turbo. From what he told me, he hasn't rebuilt or replaced the turbo. I have a feeling I am going to need to replace the turbo and have seen that some of the most popular, for street, are the TE44 and the TA49. I am wondering which would be the best to get, and what other work should i do to get the best performace out of it. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Seth

Did you ever get private responses?

My O2mv: The turbo might be fine, it might not, though with 87k on it, I would be skeptical. You need to check it out. The main difference between the 44 & 49 is visual, with the 49 being stock appearing. The 44 does flow a tad more air. See: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/turboguide/turbos.html .

As far as what else to do, depends on what the "other things" are. You need to verify what pump you have. If it is a stock pump, that is something you should address.

Good luck, Seth.

Dean

One more thing, depending on where you live and what the "Premium" gas is like (it bites in CA), the Pitbull chip may be a bit too aggressive. You might want to look into other options.
