Hey whats up, I just bought a beautiful 85 Regal ttype with 3.8turbo (for $300) The buy thought it was going to be a huge cost to get it fixed so I took it off of his hands for him.. anyhow... It doesnt run. I had a bad voltage regulater so I changed out the alternator and fixed some burned wires... and the engine then fired up and i got one rev of the engine in and it died. now i get no fuel pressure and i dont hear the fuel pump kik in when i turn the key. it sat for about a month and it was toed like 4 different times.. I heard that there was a fuel pump cutoff switch that gets tripped when it's towed? is that true?
any help would be great
thanks
P

Your fuel pump relay may be bad. There is a grey wire with a black female connector on it near the alternator. This is a test connector can be shorted to V+ to activate the pump.

While I believe the diagram at http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/images/wiring.gif is one for the 86/87 cars, I believe the fuel pump wiring is the same as the non-intercooled models.

Nope...there isn't a cutoff like in the F*rd cars.

You mentioned fixing some burned wires. My guess would be you need to really inspect ALL the wiring (a real PITA) for more damage.

The car will start and run without the fuel pump relay even in the car BTW. There's a parallel path through the oil pressure circuit.

I saw the path... It seemed alright.. I found the relay and sure enough, it was burnt all to hell...i replaced that, and still no fuel, so I checked the connection between the bat and the pump harness. However when i put 12v to the pump itslef, I got nothing... So i orderd a new one, and it will be here on fri.
I will check all the other wiring, hopefully this will be it... I just hope the ECM is still good. as well as the ignition system. I read that if the ECM doesnt get "response pulses" it will shut down the relay to the pump. I hope the pulses are comming from the crank sensor and not the ECM.
Thanks for all of your help. If you ever have computer problems let me know and I will help you out.. (im a network admin)

IT RUNS... BY GEORGE IT RUNS!!!
kinda ruff though... Im going to have them hook it up to a diag computer to see what the sensors are reading... i just got the high performance exhaust for it, it replaces from the cat back, and its a 2 muffler system instead of the single...

someone asked me what the difference between the T-Type regal and the GN was... and I have no clue... except for the intercooler... what is the difference?

Actually, the intercooler isn't the difference. Both cars had identical drivetrains.... it's basically trim levels and interior appointments/color schemes.

Mechanically, they are the same ... take a look at:
