I HAVE A REALLY STUPID QUESTION I,VE NEVER HAD TROUBLE REPLACING AN AIR FILTER BEFORE.I JUST BOUGHT AN 87 GN AND I DONT WANT TO BREAK ANYTHING.I LOOKED FOR A LATCH BUT DID NOT FIND ONE.I THINK YOU JUST POP IT OFF WITH A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER AT THE LIP.AM I RIGHT?I'D APPRECIATE ANY IMPUT ON THIS MORONIC QUESTION.....THANX ROFLO2G@YAHOO.COM

I've relocated this topic since it is more appropriate here than in the "Engine Mechanicals" section.

If you remove the plastic elbow from the top of the housing, you'll find a nut that will allow you to remove the top.

I know this got me when my car was all stock. I'm sure that many TR owners were confused how to get this setup open at first.

And, once you get it open, don't be surprised with what you may find! When I bought my '87 Limited in November, 1998, I did the obligatory tune-up things. I, too, had to puzzle over the stock box. Once I got it open, I quickly found that I wasn't the only one who was befuddled - it had the factory element in it!
