matt p (Mattp84) | Sunday, August 19, 2001 - 06:26 pm I've got a 3" down pipe, but 2.5" exhaust. Do I need to get a 3" test pipe or 2.5? And is there any difference between 'test' and 'dump' pipe? thanks |
Scott Keller (Keller) | Sunday, August 19, 2001 - 11:37 pm So long as your test pipe has the same flange as your exhaust has at that junction, you should be fine. I guess the answer is that you need a test pipe that fits your downpipe, as they should all fit the exhaust. A 'test' pipe is used in place of a catalytic converter to 'test' for a blockage. ;-) A 'dump' pipe is pretty much the same, but features a port that can be opened to allow the exhaust to bypass the entire rest of the system on the car. With a good flowing exhaust system, you may see little or no benefit with the dump open other than more noise. |
matt p (Mattp84) | Monday, August 20, 2001 - 04:18 am Does it matter what kind of down pipe you have? |
Scott Keller (Keller) | Monday, August 20, 2001 - 05:56 am Absolutely. One good example is the Terry Houston downpipe. Since it extends further back and is of larger diameter than stock, it requires a shorter, larger test pipe. Fortunately, one is offered with the pipe. |
matt p (Mattp84) | Monday, August 20, 2001 - 02:42 pm Ok. I've got a 3" BGC down pipe. They sell one, but it's about $80. I could get the dimensions and have one made or just find a used one with similar dimensions. |
Tim Ferry (87typet) | Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 08:10 am I just put on a test pipe from ATR on my '87 T-Type. As soon as I took it down the road, the service engine soon light came on and it died. Now when I'm driving, as soon as I give it a good amount of gas and let off, the light comes back on and stays on until I turn the car off. Any suggestions? |
Shawn (Jsta6) | Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 08:26 am more fuel pressure? - hot wire kit? open K&N air filter? Do you have a scan tool? Sounds like you have less back pressure, which means you are thirsty for more fuel and air... |
Tim Ferry (87typet) | Thursday, October 24, 2002 - 08:33 am My guess is the fuel too. I have a big mouth cold air intake also. Not to mention that my turbo seals are leaking oil into my intercooler and then into the throttlebody. But that's a completely different problem. I am going to change my fuel filter and see if that helps. |
