I've got a 3" down pipe, but 2.5" exhaust. Do I need to get a 3" test pipe or 2.5?

And is there any difference between 'test' and 'dump' pipe?

thanks

So long as your test pipe has the same flange as your exhaust has at that junction, you should be fine. I guess the answer is that you need a test pipe that fits your downpipe, as they should all fit the exhaust.

A 'test' pipe is used in place of a catalytic converter to 'test' for a blockage. ;-) A 'dump' pipe is pretty much the same, but features a port that can be opened to allow the exhaust to bypass the entire rest of the system on the car. With a good flowing exhaust system, you may see little or no benefit with the dump open other than more noise.

Does it matter what kind of down pipe you have?

Absolutely. One good example is the Terry Houston downpipe. Since it extends further back and is of larger diameter than stock, it requires a shorter, larger test pipe. Fortunately, one is offered with the pipe.

Ok. I've got a 3" BGC down pipe. They sell one, but it's about $80. I could get the dimensions and have one made or just find a used one with similar dimensions.

I just put on a test pipe from ATR on my '87 T-Type. As soon as I took it down the road, the service engine soon light came on and it died. Now when I'm driving, as soon as I give it a good amount of gas and let off, the light comes back on and stays on until I turn the car off. Any suggestions?

more fuel pressure? - hot wire kit?

open K&N air filter?

Do you have a scan tool?

Sounds like you have less back pressure, which means you are thirsty for more fuel and air...

My guess is the fuel too. I have a big mouth cold air intake also. Not to mention that my turbo seals are leaking oil into my intercooler and then into the throttlebody. But that's a completely different problem. I am going to change my fuel filter and see if that helps.
