I live in Michigan, and the only racing fuel I have found so far is at CITGO. It is called Turbo Blue and is Leaded 110 Octane. Can I run this in my car ? Will it ruin the stock cat converter ? My car is almost completely stock with a chip. If you want to know more about my car read The experience discussion, bad day at the track conversation. I describe my first track outing. Anyway back to my point, many of you recommended better gas. Does it matter if its leaded ? Anyone know where I could find unleaded racing fuel in the Detroit area ?

Yes, you can run Turbo Blue. Yes, it will ruin your catalytic converter and the lead content will ruin your oxygen sensor. More info on the fuel at http://www.turboblue.com/

Given how stock your car is, you really shouldn't need that stuff. You can tune the car up to run strong on 'high' octane pump gas (i.e. 92-94). And there are many high octane (99-104) unleaded fuels from Sunoco, Turbo Blue, Torco, 76, and VP if you want to turn things up a bit further. Some have had real good luck using alcohol injection systems in lieu of race fuel.

Just for reference, I ran as fast as 12.9 on 104 octane unleaded through the entire stock exhaust AND catalytic converter on DOT rubber. You don't have to hack up your car and run leaded fuel to run fairly quick.

I live up in Pontiac, and the only unleaded I found was 100 octane and I had to buy it by the barrel (55 gals at a time). It was the same cost as Turbo Blue, and it was from Shores Marathon in Birmingham.

BTW, we have a Michigan Turbo Buick Club that you might be interested in joining. The website is:

Check it out!

There are at least four gas stations that I know of in the Detroit area that sell 100 octane (or more) unleaded at the pump...

1. Citgo (if I remember correctly) station on the corner of 24-Mile Road and Gratiot in Shelby Township. They sell Torco-104 unleaded.
2. Sunoco station just east of the intersection of Eight-Mile and Telegraph (in Southfield). They sell 100-octane unleaded.
3. Supposedly at 13-Mile and Ryan there is a station that sells 100-octane unleaded. I haven't confirmed that one.
4. Sunoco station on the corner of Plymouth and Levan in Livonia. They sell 100-octane unleaded. I've gone there twice, and both times the pump has been out of order.

(if anybody knows of any stations in the Westland/Wayne/Canton area that sell 100-octane unleaded, please let me know)

I agree with Scott on this. You shouldn't need leaded racing fuel to make your car reach it's potential. I've run 12.76 on 94-octane Sunoco gas. I only really use 100-octane when I'm going to the track. If you do go to the track (Milan Dragway), they sell the 100-octane unleaded there as well.

And ditto Geoff's comments on the Michigan Buick Turbo Club. Lots of cool people and events. Check it out!

Hope this helps...
