Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 07:35 pm my turbo is going bad and i am looking for a stock upgrade where the shield will still cover the turbo. i am looking for a decent one, not to small not to big. i found a site with different charts but i do not remember it, i need some suggestions on which is best for the car(all stock) and any sites would be most helpful. thanks for the help, chad

Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 08:43 pm You might find http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/turboguide/turbos.html to be a good starting point. A TA49 or TE44 is an excellent upgrade over stock for an otherwise stock car, and either will fit under the stock shield.

Friday, September 07, 2001 - 07:14 pm Ditto Scott's comments on the TA-49. I recently installed one on my car (stock engine and I/C), and I love it. Spools almost as fast as the stock turbo, and has much more power potential. My friend and I went out a "played" a little bit with our cars (my GN and his Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo), and he was really surprised at how fast my turbo would spool-up when I hit it. Just my $0.02... Mike

Saturday, September 08, 2001 - 11:01 am I certainly don't think its necessary if you know your oiling system and this line is in good shape. It won't hurt to change it, but its certainly not a requirement and I wouldn't consider it a 'maintenance item' along the lines of a belt or oil filter.

Wednesday, September 26, 2001 - 04:15 pm TA-49 is the best stock replacement turbo 4 ur Buick. Cause its a good street turbo 2 and it gives u more power over stock. If ur not really at the strip then go 49 4 sure. On my car i got a 62 so its more of a mixt of street-strip but frequently strip. TA-49 is a very good choice.

Sunday, December 23, 2001 - 09:29 pm ANYONE KNOW IF THE T44 OR T49 WILL PASS THE CALIFORNIA SMOG VISUAL? WHATS THE DIFFERANCE FROM TE AND TA?
| |
Monday, December 24, 2001 - 09:48 am The TE series turbos have the inlet bell integrated into the compressor housing and do not appear stock. The TA series use the bolt-on bell and appear stock. I don't have any experience with the California test, but I would think a TA series turbo should pass visuals.

Monday, December 24, 2001 - 02:41 pm Only problem might be breather line from right valve cover to turbo inlet. OE turbo has nipple for vent line. Valve covers have to be sealed (no breather filters). Will OE inlet bolt to TA49??? Might be an option to pass visual.
