Paul Campbell (Pc_87gn) | Friday, September 07, 2001 - 07:16 pm I am wondering if my wastegate puck isn't sticking some. With the actuator arm off, it is hard to move it open/closed. You can tap it with a hammer one way or another (not hard whacks, just taps) but you cannot do it by hand. Also, just to see what would happen, I took the car for a spin with the arm off. When I got back, I had to tap the wastegate closed to get the arm back on. Took it for a spin afterwards, and it hit MUCHO harder in first. I've got a TE44 with a BGC 3" downpipe. How loose should it be? How do I loosen it if it is too tight? Thanks Paul Campbell |
Scott Keller (Keller) | Friday, September 07, 2001 - 08:37 pm I think it should move with VERY little effort, and definitely by hand. Maybe even just with light finger pressure. You may have burrs on the shaft, or some other sort of interference or damage. Probably a lot easier to assess with it apart. Might try something to lubricate it that will stand up to the heat. Like anti-sieze, though that's probably a wee bit thick. |
Dwight Hayden (Elevensecgn) | Friday, September 07, 2001 - 10:52 pm I've had good luck using a product avail from GM that is actually made to free up heat risers. Basically a penetrant/lubricant but made especially for high heat situations. Spray some on and work it back and forth. Repeat as necessary. If that dont work then do as Chris Carins suggest and ream the bugger out. HTH Dwight Hayden 87 GN 11.33 with a few bolt ons |
Paul Campbell (Pc_87gn) | Saturday, September 08, 2001 - 03:10 pm Thanks for the suggestions. I pulled it off today and worked it while dousing it liberly with PB Blast. Really freed it up. Boost is much more consistent, at least on the test spin around the block. I'll drive it more tonight and really get a feel for the result. Thanks Paul Campbell |
