I'm considering purchasing a single 3" exhaust system from Torque Tech. The system is available w or w/o muffler. This system requires an offset inlet/outlet (oval case) muffler. This system is designed to connect directly to the downpipe (eliminating the "cat") or can be "flanged" to mount to the outlet of the "cat".

TT offers several muffler choices including Flowmaster (2 & 3 chamber), Ultraflo's, etc. They even offer a "Torque Tech" muffler - which is really just a piece of 3" pipe!

Any thoughts on this system in general? Are these single systems prone to the dreaded "drone" like many of their dual counterparts? Suggestions on muffler choice?

In my opinion, (that and a buck 50 will get you a bad cup of coffee) once you remove the cat, you are going to get droning. Couple that with a good downpipe and you've got it. My waGoN has a factory TR exhaust with a Terry Houston Downpipe, and not only does it drone, but I got rejected for a sticker on account of the loudness. He obviously had his hearing aid turned up too loud, but it does get louder, and drone with that combo.

Just my opinion,
Brian

ATR stainless Headers, Terry Houston Downpipe, Three inch CAT from Mr. Jack Cotton, ATR 2 1/2 stainless system, with Walker Ultra-Flow straight through muffler, and they are old, I don't think Walker makes the straight through ones anymore.
All said and done with!
With, or without the CAT. I do not have the objectionable "Drone".
OBTW, I am 61, and do not like a noisy car. When I was 21, the more noise the better I liked it, thank God for my turbo Buick. :)
