I have an 85 Buick Regal T-Type motor in my 85 Chevy S-10. I just swapped the wiring harness for the original buick regal T-type harness. But now I need to set my timing and I am having trouble doing it. I keep getting a reading of 45 degrees advance. This does not sound right? My Haynes manual has nothing about setting the timing in it for my motor. Is there a wire I need to unplug to disable the system or can I not even set the timing. Please help, Be very descriptive if you can, I need to get my truck up and running, getting rides sucks... THanx Email me at Cturboaddict@aol.com

Timing is controlled entirely by the ECM/chip.

When using a timing light, you'll see DOUBLE the flashes, since the coil fires on both the compression and the exhaust part of the cycle.

So... there is no way to set the timing. It should start using the EST module under 400 RPM and then it "hands over" the timing to the ignition module/ECM when the motor is running.

Yeah but when I turn the sensor it changes the timing it sounds like. How do I set this.

Trust me, it doesn't. All you are changing is the fuel injection event. If it changes the way the car is running, then you are moving it too much.

The base timing is controlled by the EST and the running timing is controlled by the chip. No way to change it, other than a new chip.

The cam sensor isn't like a distributor and doesn't affect spark timing.

ya it may sound like it but it doesnt, I cleaned about 5 teeth off of my flywheel playing with it so stop until you know what your doing! the instructions are on this site but I can never find stuff when I want to, so I sent it to you direct email, Nick

Thanx Nick for the email. It worked out perfect today. I didnt use the oscilloscope way but she is running great now. thanx again.
