I just bought an '84 turbo regal, and it seems like the turbo never quite gets up to speed. At idle, i don't get any boost build up, even when i step on the gas for a while, i only get 3-4 psi. When in drive, the meter never gets above half-way on hte boost meter. I am using the stock boost meter, is there another way to test it so i can see if the gauge is defective? Is there a way to simply manually turn up the boost? Thanks for your help!

The turbo won't build any boost when there is no load, i.e. nuetral. You should get about 15 under full throttle while driving. The stock gauge is notoriously inacurate. You need to get an aftermarket boost gauge and see what it is really at. There is a way to turn the boost up, but you should see where it is at first, an also have a scan tool so that you can see if you are getting any spark retard. HTH

Ok Thanks guys, could you tell me: Is there a resource on this site on how to wire up an aftermarket boost gauge? And, as far as a scan tool, i understand that i can hook the car's computer up directly to a laptop and use that to read the output codes, is there a program i cna download for my computer that will read the error codes and allow me to reprogram things?

Thanks again

Go to the Technical Articles section ... pull down at the top of the page:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/bodygauges/interiorpage.html

Three different procedures.

As far as a Scan Tool goes, it's a little more complicated than that ... take a look at:

http://www.turbo-link.com

Look at the Comparisions link for some of the common tools.
