Monday, August 05, 2002 - 05:55 pm Small rip in my 85 GN hoodliner from turbo. Looking at different web sites found aftermarket new hood liners but it says need turbo heat sheild. What do they mean by this? Also thinking about taking piece of self adhesive heat sheild to cover tear. Any advice? sdweisenberger@aol.com

Tuesday, August 06, 2002 - 06:51 am My advice is to sell the G.N. and buy a real car such as a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.Then you won't need a turbo to have real performance.Besides Buicks are for real old people with one foot in the grave.I thought you had to be at least 80 to buy a Buick! Sheesh!I guess now just about anybody can buy a Buick! Well - go figure - it'll probably be the next GM division to go down anyways.Probably should just rip that hood right off the car and let a flock of seagulls make nests in there.Buicks make great birdhouses you know. Tuesday, August 06, 2002 - 05:07 pm I have an 84 T-Type and on the linner under the hood there is a piece of metal attached to it above where the turbo is. That is what they are refering to.

Monday, August 26, 2002 - 01:36 pm If you can find someone with the shield they can get measurements, but you find this does little good to protect the liner or keep the paint from checking on the other side. The shield was meant for this purpose. I know Lee Thompson got the one place that does the kits to make the shield for his application, you may just need to mention it.

Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 09:18 am I went to a fabricaror who made a shield I could attach to the original shield which increased the overall size of the shield by 150% or so. No further problems with hood liner or paint..

Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - 09:52 am that's the ticket. I have the same plan in mind before hanging the new hood and brand new liner. I think just a bigger sheild would help a lot, how long have you had it on. The amount of heat the turbo puts off sure can cook a paint job and cause a lot of discoloring.

Monday, September 23, 2002 - 03:10 am Jamie - I have had the added shield on since the car was a year old. No problems in the area since - no paint blisters either. Joey - As for a replacement liner, try Postons, in Alabama. Will post the phone number later. BTW just got back from a round trip from MA to Pitt, PA. Have straight pipes on the car and it really sounds good - specially in the tunnels on the PA Pike Had some strange goins on with the O2 sensor tho....more later Bonden

Thursday, October 09, 2003 - 02:37 pm Hi, There is a site that sells extra large turbo heat shields for the hot air cars. They can even be engraved. Along with a bunch of other parts they have that can also be engraved for our turbo buicks. Its a neat site check it out. http://www.buickgn.com/hotairheatshields.htm Ron
