Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Tuesday, October 15, 2002 - 10:37 am Every time I let off the throttle after hammering the gas, I hear this wierd sound in my air box like someone is bangin a spoon around in a bowl really fast....what is that exactly? And is there a way to control that?...it can be a little embarrasing. Any help would be appreciated...thanx |
Michael Ellis (Stickybones) | Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 04:45 am Turbo fart, turbo sneeze, turbo burp...has alot of slang terms associated with it. What it is is sort of a reverse air flow. When you're in boost and you let off the gas, your throttle slams closed and all that air your turbo is pushing now has nowhere to go. So it all backs up, slams your compressor in the turbo hard against its bearings (not a good thing) and the sound you hear is the air (i.e. boost) coming out of your air box inside out???? What you can do to control it is let off the gas easy when you're in boost or not get on it so hard when you know you have to get off of it real quick...like when pulling out of your driveway |
Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 06:17 pm Well,..that does make sense,....lol But isnt there a way to correct that? Or is that just a factory flaw? I know on my buddys eclipse when he gets on it WOT you hear a tssssssssssssssss.....shhhh as if the air has been released through a vaulve?after letting off the gas...... |
Jay (Jayster) | Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 09:01 pm hell yeah! Im surprised nobody has brought this up before (or i just didnt catch it)..MAN that is an embarrasing sound! It sounds like a clyde mobile or something..the imports sound nice & controlled...like its SUPPOSED to make that sound. The GN's just flutter like its gonna blow up. Has anybody/does anybody use an import relief valve for their GN's blowby? Maybe a shadetree-solution? I'd love to mod that on my car - and it would be a hot item for our Vendors to look into i'd think. It really is embarrasing.. |
mario rodriguez (Buicktime) | Wednesday, October 16, 2002 - 09:28 pm ATR and others use to market it (boost relief valve) and may still, but it's not a hot item when it comes to turbo regals or even domestic vehicles. The foreign cars love it, but they love any thing that just adds on and looks like it has a purpose (a performance purpose). It does work and few turbo regals use them. MARIO |
Mick Blankenship (Buickgn38sfi) | Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 09:15 am Well if anyone finds one,..I wants one...Please let me know where to get one,...Jay is write its sounds pretty awful like your gonna break something,...And actually, If you keep it up,...it WILL BREAK SOMTHING! Somebody help! |
Michael Ellis (Stickybones) | Friday, October 18, 2002 - 04:57 am Don't worry about it. But if you really want to take care of it, a bunch of vendors sell a BOV (blow off valve I think it stands for). You'd have to cut a hole and weld it into your intercooler or up-pipe. For you hot-air guys, I don't know where it would best be installed. |
Patrick Ireland (Pireland) | Friday, October 18, 2002 - 04:08 pm You need to appreciate that the GNs are NOT rice burners. They do not have fart pipes, lots of chrome, or a bunch of stickers to make them go fast. They are naturally quick. I understand the stock air intake is much quieter so you could put that back on. Otherwise, appreciate that the noise is an indication that a very powerful beast is relaxing and enjoy it. Patrick Ireland '87 GN |
