Several possibilities ...

  • Misadjusted crank sensor
  • Bent "tang" on interrupter ring
  • Bent balancer ring
  • Broken/cracked main letting crank flex (don't laugh, happened to me!)
  • Bad thrust bearing

Thanks Ken,...Oh and by the way thanks for that turbo link I ordered from you the other day...
I think its just not on there right,..Ive never put one on but I did put it in the first groove,..does it matter wich groove I put the crank tabs in? or is there seperate ones for each groove?can you give some detail? are you supposed to take off the balancer to do this?...cause I didnt,..I just eyeballed it....

The car won't start if it's in the wrong groove, so it sounds like yours is OK.

You do have to align the sensor head to the interrupter groove.

Take a matchbook or a piece of plastic 1 liter pop bottle bottom and put it on other side of the sensor with the interrupter ring. That spaces it from side to side in the center.

Kent-Moore makes a tool for this that's pretty slick, but the above method works fine too.
