Thursday, June 28, 2001 - 07:43 am Well, the PowerMaster system seems to have it's own quirks and can be a real pain. Doe the car you are looking at have the Hydroboost (has a booster that runs off the power steering pump) or the PowerMaster (and electric motor under the master cylinder)? The Hydroboost brakes seem to be pretty trouble free. In 1985, it seems there were some cars built with both systems. In either case, if it turns out that it's more than just routine brake work, you can convert to vacuum brakes (go to the Brakes section of the web page for several procedures on how to do it) or you can get a rebuilt unit from Autozone/Cardone/NAPA/Pep Boys for about $300.

Monday, September 10, 2001 - 04:13 pm I am an avid fan of the hydraboost system. If you have the power steering pump plumbed to the master cyl. DON'T change a thing. This is one of the best brake systems I have ever dealt with for performance as well as everyday use. GM used it on a lot of the early 80's late 70's diesels. If you dont have it, get it off an 80 or so Cutlass diesel, the swap is just nuts and bolts. This system flat kills regular vacuum. I have even put it on my 85 Chevy C10 tow vehicle. Man, what a pleasure it is to use now. Just my $.02
