David Greenberg (Azlandman) | Saturday, October 26, 2002 - 01:02 pm Is the white coating on the 84 intake manifold some sort of heat dissipating coating, or just paint? I bead blasted it off and was going to repaint it black, but figured I better check first. |
Nick Gianopoulos (Ngianop) | Monday, October 28, 2002 - 05:31 pm David, I recently removed the intake on my '84 but did not find any paint/coating - just plain aluminum. I DO plan on having those metallic/ ceramic heat barrier coatings applied though. |
David Greenberg (Azlandman) | Monday, October 28, 2002 - 07:27 pm Both of my 84 engines have the same stuff on the manifold. It is a coarse paint-like substance. It seems to flake off pretty readily. |
Eric Fisher (Ericf) | Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 03:35 pm I must have at least 6 hot air motors and every one had that coating too. I think its just paint to make the engine look pretty altough the intercooled manifolds look like they have the same paint but they dont seem flake as bad as the hot airs. You would think that if it is a thermal barrier it wouldn't flake off. Two years ago at the gs nationals someone I cant remember was powder coating parts and the silver(white?) they had looked darn near close to the factory stuff. Maybe somebody remembers who they were? |
